Jingle Bells

Posted on December 17th, 2011

And so here we are at the end of another year. It’s rather an opportune time to look back over 2011 and review its literary successes, so, to that end, here is my Top-Five-Christmas-Book-Round-Up.

  1. YA: The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins – a must-read trilogy before the first film comes out next year.
  2. YA: Before I Fall by Lauren Oliver spawning a whole new trend in fiction for older readers.
  3. Middle Grade: Agatha Parrot and The Floating Head by Kjartan Poskitt/David Tazzyman – irreverent and funny (though I’m biased!).
  4. Middle Grade: Horrible Histories by Terry Deary/Martin Brown – not exactly new, but 2011 has definitely been their year.
  5. Picture Book: I Want My Hat Back by Jon Klassen – simple comic genius.
