Smart Quill Editorial About the Editor

All Elusive Editors

Posted on February 2nd, 2014

It’s a new year, and as such, pretty much everyone in the publishing industry turns their minds to submissions. Agents are very forthcoming on the sort of books they like, blogging and using websites to explain their tastes. And of course it pays to do research who likes what. But it is harder to draw out the editors on this topic. Hence a rather marvellous resource from agent Andrew Lownie. I referred to it last year and am delighted it is looking to be an annual feature.

Herewith his round-up on editors for 2014, and very interesting it is too:

I especially liked Mark Richard’s comment about first person narratives.I completely agree that this POV is often ill-fitting for fiction, and it should be consciously and carefully considered.
